"Stop the Number 2 bus cut" says Mid Bedfordshire MP

Updated: Oct 23

PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP

FRIDAY 5 JANUARY 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Member of Parliament for Mid Bedfordshire, Labour's Alistair Strathern, has today joined calls to stop the proposed cuts to the number 2 bus in Bedfordshire facing the chop.

The call comes after it was announced that Stagecoach would be making changes to its bus services from February 18, including fully cutting bus service number 2.

In a letter to the CEO of Stagecoach Claire Miles, Mr Strathern has called on the company to reconsider the decision to cut the vital route running through Bedford, Kempston, Ampthill and Flitwick, and to meet with local bus users who are affected.

Alistair Strathern, Labour MP for Mid Bedfordshire, said:

"Residents right across Mid Bedfordshire have been getting in touch with me to say how concerned they are that the number 2 bus is being cut. This is a vital service that many people living in our area really rely on, particularly older people and families.

"I want Stagecoach to reconsider this decision, to meet with me and bus users who will be affected, and to stop the number 2 bus cut.

"Labour's policy on this is very clear: we will bring bus services back under public control with a Take Back Control Act. This will allow local authorities to reinstate cancelled routes, set affordable fairs, and deliver the fully joined up bus network that Bedfordshire deserves."
