Alistair Strathern, MP for the Hitchin constituency, has today sent a letter signed by a cross-party group of councillors, calling on Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) to prioritise finally concluding the three to two-tier school transition in the Shefford and Stotfold clusters.
In his letter, Strathern asks CBC to prioritise the cluster of schools which has seen a part-transition with some schools moving to a two-tier system, while others have hired staff on the basis of a move that has never materialised.
Strathern has requested CBC ensure that the limited funding necessary to finish this part of the three to two-tier transition is in this year’s council budget, ending years of uncertainty for local parents and schools.
One of Strathern’s priorities upon entering office has been to work with CBC to come up with a resolution and give certainty to families where it has been lacking for so long.
Alistair Strathern MP said:
“For seemingly a generation, the lack of a clear, executed plan to transition Central Beds into a two-tier school area has caused untold disruption for so many.
“The situation is the Shefford to Stotfold cluster is especially pressing. The strength of feeling locally couldn’t be clearer with councillors across party lines joining my call for action from CBC.
“We owe it to all teachers, staff, parents and students to finally deliver a result that works for everyone.”
