Hitchin MP launches campaign to expand solar panels on new homes

Alistair Strathern

PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP

FRIDAY 17th JANUARY 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alistair Strathern, MP for the Hitchin constituency, has today launched a campaign to increase the number of new houses that have solar panels installed as standard.

Strathern has written to Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook to call for tighter regulations on developers to make solar panels on new houses the rule, rather than the exception.

The MP is asking for people to add their name to his letter to support his campaign.

The Government has committed to tripling solar and quadrupling wind by 2030, as part of their efforts to substantially decarbonise. Strathern wants to go even further.

One of Strathern’s priorities and passions as an MP is defending our environment. This work has been national, for example championing efforts to tackle water pollution, and local, for instance spearheading the effort to improve flood mitigation.

Alistair’s letter can be read and signed via this form.

Alistair Strathern MP said:

“We need to make the very most of the energy transition to clean, green renewable power.

“I have welcomed the Government’s fantastic first steps to do just this, but I want to see us do even more.

“Many of us have been frustrated to see new homes go up without solar panels as standard, across our area.

“That’s why I am calling for people to back my campaign to end the days of solar panels being an afterthought when building new homes.”
