PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN
THURSDAY 30 MAY 2024
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Angela Rayner, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and Shadow Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Secretary, promised to tackle leasehold issues on a visit to Stondon in Bedfordshire yesterday.
She was joined by Alistair Strathern, Labour's candidate for the new Hitchin constituency, which Stondon is becoming part of.
Labour has pledged to finish the job of finally bringing the archaic and iniquitous leasehold system to an end, by enacting all the Law Commission’s recommendations and taking further steps to make commonhold the default tenure.
Alistair Strathern, Labour's Candidate for the new Hitchin constituency said:
"It's fantastic to have Angela Rayner out campaigning with us.
"Right across our towns and villages we know residents living on new estates are being let down, whether it's leasehold, fleecehold or the never-ending issues of estates adoption.
"We need a government that is going to take action to help leaseholders, and this election is our chance to get exactly that."
While he was an MP, Mr Strathern has pushed ministers to take swift action for estates across Bedfordshire, that have been waiting years for their roads to be adopted by the council.
