29 April 2024: My week in Parliament and Mid Bedfordshire

Updated: Apr 30

It’s been another busy week for me in Parliament and across our towns and villages.

In Parliament I raised how the current approach to investing in GPs is failing towns and villages like ours where significant growth has not been met by the needed expansion in healthcare capacity. I look forward to meeting with the Minister to explain why the measures she mentioned just aren’t working. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/SnBuCpCT4c5D5GvP/?mibextid=WC7FNe

I celebrated the news that Flitwick Town Council had been successful in its bid to the Community Ownership Fund for funding to reopen the Barclay’s Bank Building as a community hub and potentially bring a Post Office counter back to Flitwick. I’d pressed Minsiters on the bid in Parliament and am glad they’ve listened. I’m looking forward to working to support Cllr Andy Snape - Flitwick Town Mayor and everyone at FTC to make their great plans a reality. https://www.bedfordtoday.co.uk/news/politics/council/former-barclays-bank-in-flitwick-could-be-turned-into-restaurant-and-shop-after-nearly-ps300k-grant-4606754

I challenged the Government over their failure to meet with CBC to help resolve the stalled local school transition. I know the pain the uncertainty is causing local schools and families, and have been meeting with schools and CBC to try and push things forward, but Ministers need to play their part too. https://www.biggleswadetoday.co.uk/.../mp-demands-more...

It was great to visit King’s Arm garden in Ampthill to hear about the fantastic work local volunteers do to support this fantastic community asset. They are always on the lookout for helping hands so do drop them a line if you want to get involved!

I held my latest constituency surgery in Ampthill, and monthly Town Hall public meeting in Stondon this week. Thank you to everyone who took the time to come along and share their views or raise issues with me.

I had the pleasure of welcoming One Dragonfly Studio as the latest addition to Shefford high street- to go along and see the fantastic job Su and the team have done fitting the studio out.

It was great to swing by Derwent School PTAs fundraising event this weekend, which provided a great opportunity to pick up fuel for campaigning ahead of this week’s local elections!
